THE LIZARD, AN ANCIENT SPIRIT OF PLACE
LIZARD-- AN ANCIENT AND WISE SPIRIT OF PLACE.
Lizard, a symbol of abundance, regeneration and resurrection across many cultures. In Egypt there is a symbol of a Lizard which translates to abundance. In Rome, Lizard was seen as a symbol of resurrection. Lizard, ancient and wise, has survived "life" since the time of, and even before, the Dinosaurs. In our deserts The Lizard is the Sun Worshipper whose cold blood is lulled into a dream state with the warmth of solar rays. She reminds us to sit at the tops of powerful boulders and rock formations when addressing Spirit; power lives in high places. Smart and fast, for some she reminds of quick thinking and adaptive movement. Capable of enduring personal attacks and even surviving mortal injury in battle where she may lose her tail, she reminds that even we, when wounded, can regenerate the parts of our lives and psyches we have lost. Or, heal our wounds and parts of ourselves we have lost from trauma in our pasts. Just when an enemy thinks they have Lizard in their clutches, she will sacrifice a part of herself, fooling the enemy just long enough for Lizard to escape. Later, when the time is right she regenerates the part of herself which was sacrificed in the name of life and becomes "whole" again. It is one of the most important metaphoric lessons Lizard shares with us about facing, surviving, cunning enemies. In some cultures it is said, Lizard lives in the King's Places.
